How to Analyze Placement Test Results in Zapmail

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Placement Test results show where your emails actually land—Inbox, Spam, or Other—across major email providers. Understanding these results helps you identify deliverability issues early and take action before sending campaigns at scale.

This guide explains how to read Placement Test results and what to do next.

Where to View Your Placement Test Results

  • Log in to your Zapmail dashboard

  • Go to Deliverability

  • Open the Placement Test tab

  • Click on a completed test to view detailed results

Inbox Placement

Emails delivered directly to the primary inbox.

✔ This is your goal
✔ Higher inbox rates indicate strong sender reputation

Spam Placement

Emails filtered into the spam folder.

⚠️ Indicates deliverability issues
⚠️ Often caused by domain reputation, copy, or sending patterns

Provider-Level Overview

From the Key Metrics section:

  • You can view inbox placement by email provider (Google Workspace, Microsoft 365)

  • This gives you a quick overview of how your emails perform across major providers

The placement graph visually shows:

  • How many emails landed in the Inbox

  • How many landed in Spam

This makes it easy to spot provider-specific deliverability issues at a glance.

Mailbox-Wise Report

If you want deeper insights:

  • Switch from Overview to Mailbox-wise report

  • See placement results for each individual mailbox

  • Identify underperforming mailboxes and take action before scaling

This is especially useful when testing multiple mailboxes in a single Placement Test.

Blacklist Status

Shows whether any mailbox was detected on a blacklist.

  • “No mailboxes blacklisted” = ✅ Safe

  • Any blacklist warning here should be addressed immediately

What Does Auth Status Mean?

Auth Status indicates whether email authentication checks (SPF, DKIM, and DMARC) were reported as passing during the Placement Test.

⚠️ Important to know:
If Auth Status shows 0% passing, it usually means:

  • Authentication results are informational during placement testing

  • Not all inbox providers report auth data for seed test emails

  • Emails can still land in the inbox even if auth results aren’t reported

This does not automatically mean your domain is misconfigured—especially if:

  • Inbox placement is high

  • Spam rate is low or zero

How to interpret it correctly:

  • High Inbox Rate + 0% Auth Status → Generally safe

  • Low Inbox Rate + 0% Auth Status → Review DNS and auth setup

  • High Spam Rate + Auth failures → Immediate action recommended

Always evaluate Auth Status together with Inbox and Spam placement, not in isolation.

How Long Results Take

  • Results appear within 2–24 hours

  • Safe to run anytime

  • Does not affect your sending reputation

  • No real contacts are emailed — only seed inboxes receive test emails

What to Do After Reviewing Results

If Inbox Rate Is High

✅ You’re safe to start or scale campaigns
✅ Re-run tests monthly for monitoring

If Spam Rate Is High

  • Reduce sending volume

  • Simplify email copy

  • Remove links or aggressive CTAs

  • Re-run the test after changes

✅ Final Takeaway

Placement Test results give you a clear signal of your domain’s health before real outreach begins.
